Evaluation question 4

What technology did we use throughout the course?

We used the college’s small cameras to film all of our music video; we didn’t find any problem with filming our video. When it came to putting the video onto the computer and capturing it we faced many problems, this was mainly because the computers didn’t seem to run final cut express that well, which posed quite a problem at times, as some computers had the software we needed were others just didn’t seem to have it.

For location shots I used my Panasonic lumix SLR camera which produced some nice clear images of the types of environment that we were hoping to film, and actors that we were hoping to use. We used this camera to create an anamatic of our music video.  This was also the same camera that I used to take pictures for my Digipack and my Magazine advert, and I was very happy with how the images turned out.
After putting the photos from my camera onto my laptop while creating my Magazine and Digipack, I opened them in Photoshop. This gave me lots of possibilities of what I could do with the images, I decided that because the song is called ‘The World’ then I would try to create a globe with panoramic images that I had taken for the front and the back of the Digipack. I then decided to edit the colour on them, and inverted ones colour completely so that it matched the Magazine advert more. I thought by doing this it would make my Magazine advert and Digipack look like they really linked to the song. I thought this as the song almost depicts an alternative view of the world, so by inverting the colour it’s like an obvious different perspective.

For editing we used video pad video editor and Sony Vegas pro which worked very well. When using this program it was simple and had lots of effects that we needed, for example when we were looking at some of our clips we realised we wanted them to play in reverse instead, and this program did this perfectly.

When getting audience feedback, I set a Facebook group so that I could openly post my ideas onto the blog and get regular comments on how to improve. I found this very helpful, as even when doing work I could publish something I had just done and then would get a comment almost instantly at times on how I could improve on it.

Evaluation question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

For our audience feedback we tried to use allot of different methods to try to achieve the best possible outcome. When we had produced our rough cut for our music video we then showed it to a group of people and recorded it so that we could get a audience feedback of them on to what to improve and what they thought of it so far.
I think that this video helped us to improve upon what we had and create more of a story line to our video.
I have also used online websites like Facebook to try to get feedback on the digipacks and magazine adverts that i have produced. I wanted to do this so that i could get a broader opinion on whether my advert and digipack fitted my target audience and looked professional.

I have looked through all the comments that people have given me. They have mainly said that the pictures are very good and they think that it suits the target audience and the colours work well with it too. But some of the writing wasn’t clearly visible as some of the photos were almost merged with the writing.

Evaluation question 2

Evaluation question 1

In what ways does your media  product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

We researched allot of music videos to try to find inspiration for our own music video. We looked at such videos like Chase and Status ‘Peices’, and Rizzle Kicks ‘The trumpets’. We wanted to use aspects of chase and status’s video like when they use scenes of them creating the music side to the video in a production type environment. We also thought that the way that rizzle kicks use their transactions between clips is really clever and quite strange and kind of trippy, we wanted to use this aspect because our video is about the misuse of drugs and thought that these kind of transactions would suit our video perfectly.

Our target audience research really helped us with what exactly we would want in our music video to try to make it suit the target audience as much as possible, we decided that the target audience was going to be from 16- 25 but with this explicit content of her taking drugs it would probably boost the age to 18-25. But this is fine as most people who enjoy the drum and bass genre are usually between the ages of 18-25.

This video would be different to the conventions of normal media products; this is as we had a very limited time scale. We only had a few weeks to film our video so we had to find actresses that were able to film when we needed to do filming. This posed a problem at the start which delayed filming because we had to swap actresses this meant that we lost a bit of time. The equipment had also been used allot previously this meant that the film wasn’t able to be shot as the highest quality, like a conventional music video, this meant some scenes were a bit jumpy and pixelated. Our video will also be different as allot of drum and bass artists don’t actually do videos for their songs, apart from of course some of the more mainstream artists such as DJ Fresh and Chase and Status.

Risk Asessment

Potential Danger
Potential Outcome
Action to avoid potential outcomes
Further Comments
Location 1: Recording Studio

Tripping over obstacles on floor
Serious injury
Move everything unneeded out of the way
Move the objects to a different room then place them back after
Electrical Equipment
Electrocution
Serious Injury
Make sure that we don’t take any fluid in the studio

Location 2: Holly’s house
Falling down the stairs
Serious Injury
Make sure that when we are filming our actress is careful as she walks down the stairs

When filming from the bottom of the stairs the actress could possibly fall down and hit the camera
Serious Injury
Make sure that the actress takes care when walking down stairs

Tripping over stuff on the floor
Serious Injury
We should move everything out of the way so that it doesn’t result in injury

When we get the actress to fall backward
She could fall on a hard surface and injure herself
Make sure there is a padded, soft landing

Electrical equipment
Could be a possible risk of loose wires so could electrocute ourselves
Make sure if there are any loose wires to keep well clear of them

Feedback from our Target Audience

Answers from audience to our questions:

Does our idea suit our target audience?

-                    The idea does suit the target audience because; the idea is different and not usually seen.
-                    Yes the idea has a storyline that may appeal to people of the 16-25 sectors because the idea revolves around a woman of the same age.
-                    The idea of the music video would suit the target audience because of the drum and bass music genre.
-                    Yes anyone who enjoys narrative base videos will enjoy this.
-                    Yes it is good! May appeal to more female people.
-                    Yes, it’s a very mainstream idea and many people will like it.

Are our arrangements Logical?

-                    It could be hard to find a convincing setting.
-                    It may be difficult to film if you do not get permission but it will be simple to get permission.
-                    It might be hard to find a convincing setting for the night club scenes
-                    They seem very possible, as the effects will make the video professional.
-                    Yes, this will be fairly easy to film, although the night club might be a challenge
-                    This is a very good idea and seems logical.

Does our idea sound achievable with college or our own equipment?

-                    The nightclub scenes maybe tricky to pull-off but if you find a club that will let you film, I’m sure it will be fine.
-                    It should be achievable because there are no special effects needed.
-                    It is very achievable.
-                    I should think so, depending on getting permission.
-                    Depending on where you go, yes I think it would be very achievable.

Do you have anything to ask about our idea?

-                    Who will your actors be?
-                    Does the female artists become famous? Is she recording music for money?
-                    What methods will you use for the flashback?

Digi pack analysis

This digi pack has quite a cool design, obviously its aim is to the more kind of gothic group of fans. This is depicted with the weirdly drawn people and the weird lines. I think it’s quite a clever digi pack, as because it is so obscure it is eye catching. The front cover suggests that it’s an alternative kind of band as it has such a unique style to their art work. There target audience is probably for people over the age of 18 this is as the cover almost looks horrific and most horrors are made for people over 18.

I like that the inside of the digi pack follows the same pattern at the cover. I enjoy this as it makes it look very professional and easy to look through. The only changes are that the colour is an orange more than a dark red and the drawings are slightly different. The writing has a very gothic feel to it which fits in with the target audience and is the same throughout the digi pack apart from the song names and the names of the people in their band, this is probably as they wanted to highlight the more important bits about there digi pack with normal writing then the name and the name of their band they printed in this gothic text.

Magazine Analysis

This image is a very interesting colourful image, which is eye catching to the viewer. The way that the font is set out is very clever as it is white lettering on a black background; this makes it stand out and easier to read, even though there is a more obvious eye catching display of the picture.  The picture of the city is a clever photograph because it a photo of the city at night. This is to show that it’s advertising to the people who live in cities who enjoy the nightlife and go to the clubs.  This genre of music is house music. This music is meant to attract the “ravers” in the city to the clubs. Also to the of “felix da housecat” I think is very clever as it connotes the fact that a cat doesn’t sleep at night and that they are trying to attract the ravers who enjoy this music.

The layout is very good there is allot of information on it but it is very neatly laid out which makes it easier to read.  The font of “felix da housecat” is a kind of electronic looking font, and with the “O” being a vinyl and a towing arm of a turntable.

The advert is a half page this is most likely so that it more like a CD advert for the magazine it doesn’t take up as much space as if they bought the magazine in the next week like the circle in the top right of it says then they will get this CD free.
