shot | Shot type and movement: the shot type is a long shot which shows the cartoon windmill and the person sat on the edge playing guitar, this shows that it’s a chilled out laid back song. | Analysis |
The long shot shows the windmill and one of the band members playing a guitar. This video is a cartoon video which is a performance based video. The location of this video is in a make believe world created by the artwork of the lead singer of Gorrilaz. The colours of the video is very colourful, I think this is to depict even though it’s a very slow and calm song it is meant to appeal to the younger public. As all the characters that sing this song are cartoons it gives the artists performing a kind of mask, similar to Slipnot.
Music/Lyrics Guitar solo/rift | Edit: slow cut shows/ dissolve |
shot | Long shot of bridge to show atmosphere | Analysis |
The LS of the bridge is to build up the song, this gives it a certain amount of suspense and makes you intrigued in how this could fit Into the video storyline. The camera then zoomes in very quickly to through the bridge and then arches upwards towards a tower which is what the video is set in. The camera after arching up to the tower, which has the name of the song printed onto it, zooms into the tower and seems like it goes through the tower into a room. This creates a sense of mystery, as you don’t understand the meaning of the tower.

shot | Shot type and movement: Close up of lead singer | Analysis |
This close up shows the lead singer being very serious and grumpy looking. This is to depict that he is a bit “badass” and gangster, as it’s a hip-hop kind of song. He is seen to be nodding his head to the beat as the camera pans left. I think its clever how they have done this as the lyrics behind this image is the backing singer singing “feel good” even though it’s a slow tempo depressing type song.
Music/ lyrics: “feel good” | Edits: fade to black before this clip and a dissolve to the background video after. |
Shot | Shot type and movement: mid close up of lead singer and a girl as the camera is zooming backwards down the guitar. | Analysis |
This mid-close up is to try to show that these cartoon men are living the rock and roll life. This is portrayed as the guitar player has 2 half naked girls next to him and he has his top off, this portrayed the rock and roll easy going party all night kind of scene.
Music/lyrics “Shh a shh a” | Edits: Cut to black |
Shot | Shot type and movement: mid close up of backing singer looking through a window. | Analysis |
This mid close up is to shows the singer being trapped behind a window. This is meant to resemble how they are trapped looking through the glass with everyone able to look in.
Music/lyrics “Cause I don’t get sleep, no” | Edits Fade to next scene |
Shot | Shot type and movement Mid close of both cartoon figure and rapper in background, over the shoulder shot of rapper. | Analysis |
The mid close of the cartoon figure emphasises the power of the rapper that is looming over his shoulder. This is a clever shot as the rapper seems scary and unrealistic compared to the cartoon images.
Music/lyrics “Watch me as I gravitate, ahahahaaaaaaaa” | Edits Rolls into next scene |
