Evaluation question 1

In what ways does your media  product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

We researched allot of music videos to try to find inspiration for our own music video. We looked at such videos like Chase and Status ‘Peices’, and Rizzle Kicks ‘The trumpets’. We wanted to use aspects of chase and status’s video like when they use scenes of them creating the music side to the video in a production type environment. We also thought that the way that rizzle kicks use their transactions between clips is really clever and quite strange and kind of trippy, we wanted to use this aspect because our video is about the misuse of drugs and thought that these kind of transactions would suit our video perfectly.

Our target audience research really helped us with what exactly we would want in our music video to try to make it suit the target audience as much as possible, we decided that the target audience was going to be from 16- 25 but with this explicit content of her taking drugs it would probably boost the age to 18-25. But this is fine as most people who enjoy the drum and bass genre are usually between the ages of 18-25.

This video would be different to the conventions of normal media products; this is as we had a very limited time scale. We only had a few weeks to film our video so we had to find actresses that were able to film when we needed to do filming. This posed a problem at the start which delayed filming because we had to swap actresses this meant that we lost a bit of time. The equipment had also been used allot previously this meant that the film wasn’t able to be shot as the highest quality, like a conventional music video, this meant some scenes were a bit jumpy and pixelated. Our video will also be different as allot of drum and bass artists don’t actually do videos for their songs, apart from of course some of the more mainstream artists such as DJ Fresh and Chase and Status.
