Evaluation question 4

What technology did we use throughout the course?

We used the college’s small cameras to film all of our music video; we didn’t find any problem with filming our video. When it came to putting the video onto the computer and capturing it we faced many problems, this was mainly because the computers didn’t seem to run final cut express that well, which posed quite a problem at times, as some computers had the software we needed were others just didn’t seem to have it.

For location shots I used my Panasonic lumix SLR camera which produced some nice clear images of the types of environment that we were hoping to film, and actors that we were hoping to use. We used this camera to create an anamatic of our music video.  This was also the same camera that I used to take pictures for my Digipack and my Magazine advert, and I was very happy with how the images turned out.
After putting the photos from my camera onto my laptop while creating my Magazine and Digipack, I opened them in Photoshop. This gave me lots of possibilities of what I could do with the images, I decided that because the song is called ‘The World’ then I would try to create a globe with panoramic images that I had taken for the front and the back of the Digipack. I then decided to edit the colour on them, and inverted ones colour completely so that it matched the Magazine advert more. I thought by doing this it would make my Magazine advert and Digipack look like they really linked to the song. I thought this as the song almost depicts an alternative view of the world, so by inverting the colour it’s like an obvious different perspective.

For editing we used video pad video editor and Sony Vegas pro which worked very well. When using this program it was simple and had lots of effects that we needed, for example when we were looking at some of our clips we realised we wanted them to play in reverse instead, and this program did this perfectly.

When getting audience feedback, I set a Facebook group so that I could openly post my ideas onto the blog and get regular comments on how to improve. I found this very helpful, as even when doing work I could publish something I had just done and then would get a comment almost instantly at times on how I could improve on it.

Evaluation question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

For our audience feedback we tried to use allot of different methods to try to achieve the best possible outcome. When we had produced our rough cut for our music video we then showed it to a group of people and recorded it so that we could get a audience feedback of them on to what to improve and what they thought of it so far.
I think that this video helped us to improve upon what we had and create more of a story line to our video.
I have also used online websites like Facebook to try to get feedback on the digipacks and magazine adverts that i have produced. I wanted to do this so that i could get a broader opinion on whether my advert and digipack fitted my target audience and looked professional.

I have looked through all the comments that people have given me. They have mainly said that the pictures are very good and they think that it suits the target audience and the colours work well with it too. But some of the writing wasn’t clearly visible as some of the photos were almost merged with the writing.

Evaluation question 2

Evaluation question 1

In what ways does your media  product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

We researched allot of music videos to try to find inspiration for our own music video. We looked at such videos like Chase and Status ‘Peices’, and Rizzle Kicks ‘The trumpets’. We wanted to use aspects of chase and status’s video like when they use scenes of them creating the music side to the video in a production type environment. We also thought that the way that rizzle kicks use their transactions between clips is really clever and quite strange and kind of trippy, we wanted to use this aspect because our video is about the misuse of drugs and thought that these kind of transactions would suit our video perfectly.

Our target audience research really helped us with what exactly we would want in our music video to try to make it suit the target audience as much as possible, we decided that the target audience was going to be from 16- 25 but with this explicit content of her taking drugs it would probably boost the age to 18-25. But this is fine as most people who enjoy the drum and bass genre are usually between the ages of 18-25.

This video would be different to the conventions of normal media products; this is as we had a very limited time scale. We only had a few weeks to film our video so we had to find actresses that were able to film when we needed to do filming. This posed a problem at the start which delayed filming because we had to swap actresses this meant that we lost a bit of time. The equipment had also been used allot previously this meant that the film wasn’t able to be shot as the highest quality, like a conventional music video, this meant some scenes were a bit jumpy and pixelated. Our video will also be different as allot of drum and bass artists don’t actually do videos for their songs, apart from of course some of the more mainstream artists such as DJ Fresh and Chase and Status.
